As I was browsing through YouTube, I came across a beautiful song with lyrics written by Pandit Vinay Chandra Moudgalya. The song started with the powerful line -

हिन्दू देश के निवासी सभी जान एक है
रंग रूप वेश भाषा चाहे अनेक है |

which translates to “The citizens of our Indian land are united as one, hand in hand, regardless of their color, attire, or speech.”

This line struck a chord with me because it embodies the essence of our country’s diversity and unity. India is a land of many cultures, languages, and religions, but despite these differences, we are all united as one. The song goes on to say, “In diversity, our strength does reach”, which is so true. Our diversity is our strength, and it is what makes India a unique and beautiful country.

The next line of the song reads, “From North to South, East to West, our unity is put to the test, but we stand together as one, and rise above the setting sun.” This line highlights the challenges that India has faced over the years, but it also shows that we have stood together through it all. We may have our differences, but we always come together when it matters the most.

The song also acknowledges the different languages and customs that are present in India, stating, “Our land is full of vibrant hues, different languages we all use, but in our hearts beats one rhythm, of love and respect, there is no schism.” This line is a testament to the fact that despite our diverse backgrounds, we are all connected by a common thread of love and respect.

It is amazing how music and songs have the power to shape our thoughts and values. The song by Pandit Vinay Chandra Moudgalya that I came across on YouTube brought back a flood of memories from my childhood. The song was a regular feature on All India Radio, and I used to listen to it almost every day. The lyrics of the song were so powerful that even after all these years, I can still recite them by memory.

As I was listening to the song, I realized that it was because of such songs that I have imbibed certain values and philosophies that have stayed with me throughout my life. The song talked about the unity and diversity of our country, and how all citizens are equal and entitled to the same rights. It emphasized the importance of treating everyone with love and respect, regardless of their differences.

However, as I thought more about it, my heart filled with sadness. I realized that these songs are no longer a part of our daily lives. All India Radio, which used to be the platform for such inspirational songs, is now hardly heard by anyone. Instead, commercial TV channels have taken over, and they hardly care about broadcasting songs that inspire and promote values.

The new generation is growing up without exposure to such songs and values. It is disheartening to see that the values that were so important to us are slowly being forgotten. Commercial TV channels are more interested in ratings and profits than in promoting the values that made our country great.

Therefore, I strongly feel that the government should mandate that at least half an hour of prime time on TV channels should be reserved for broadcasting inspirational songs and promoting values that are essential for building a strong and united society. We need to ensure that the next generation grows up with the same values and philosophies that we imbibed from the songs that we heard on All India Radio.

To give you a better understanding of the song, I am providing a full translation below:

The citizens of our Indian land,
Are united as one, hand in hand,
Regardless of their color, attire, or speech,
In diversity, our strength does reach.

From North to South, East to West,
Our unity is put to the test,
But we stand together as one,
And rise above the setting sun.

Our land is full of vibrant hues,
Different languages we all use,
But in our hearts beats one rhythm,
Of love and respect, there is no schism.

So let us cherish this unity,
And uphold our country’s dignity,
For we are all one and the same,
Proud of our country and its name.
